Women Ride for Female Ride Day

Part of International recognition of women riders

Women riders worldwide hit the road on Friday, May 2, to celebrate Female Ride Day. Vicki Gray of Motoress, a Web site focused on women, came up with the idea to recognize women riders every year by spotlighting one special day where women ride their motorcycles.

Several dealerships across the country extended their support with special activities including Daytona Harley-Davidsions first International Female Ride Day Event for female motorcyclists. Daytona area riders were invited to join the festivities that included a safety seminar, fashion show, bike contest, raffles, giveaways, live entertainment and a performance by the Daytona Harley-Davidson Drill Team.

Women from all over the world ride together for Female Ride Day.

A police escorted Moonlight Ride was scheduled from Destination Harley Daytona to Main Street for live entertainment, food, activities and attractions. Coverage of the event will be posted on The Biker Guides Web site along with pictures submitted by participants. For more information visit TheBikerGuide.com.

“I have heard from many women across Canada, the United States, England, The Netherlands, and even as far as Australia about how they plan on enjoying organized rides, some including fundraisers, to celebrate the day,” says Vicki Gray, the campaign founder.

Vicki, along with other Canadian supporters, celebrated Female Ride Day in Toronto. Those not having to go to work were welcome to enjoy a short city ride and perhaps visit a few local shops or dealerships.

Other organized events included Harley-Davidsons headquarters with parking for female riders, a short ride at noon and a Garage Party at the end of the day. Trev Deeley Motorcycles in Vancouver offered discounts and a drawing for women with a valid motorcycle drivers license.

All women, no matter what type or style of motorcycle were encouraged to participate. For more information on Female Ride Day or to share and see photographs from participating riders visit Motoress.com/Female Ride Day2008.asp.
