Product Review: My Medic First Aid Kit for Motorcyclists

A quality first aid kit specifically built for motorcycle riders and adventurers

No matter how skilled a motorcycle rider you are, things happen. Whether it’s a medical emergency or a motorcycle mishap, you can never be too prepared. There are plenty of other medical factors to consider besides an actual motorcycle crash. For these reasons I carry a comprehensive life-saving first aid kit, the Moto Medic by My Medic.

Whether riding on or off the road it pays to be prepared by carrying a good first aid kit packed with things like ointments, gauze, bandages, anti inflammatories, antibiotics, and more.

Having a well-stocked organized first aid kit like My Medic’s Moto Medic Stormproof First Aid Kit can be as valuable, if not more valuable, than the motorcycle tools you bring along on a ride.

You've heard the saying, “It’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.” Making a first aid kit part of our safety gear and pre-ride checklist is how a responsible motorcyclist takes the route of being prepared. Hopefully, you will never need to use a first aid kit, but if you do, having one may be the difference between life and death.

Your first aid kit should be easy to access. You want to be able to get to it quickly without pulling everything out of your bike’s saddlebags.

Even if we don’t need the equipment for ourselves think about how great it is to help someone who is in critical need or to be able to help save a life. There’s a lot you can do before the paramedics arrive if you have the right supplies.

When picking out a first aid kit to carry, motorcyclists want one compact enough to carry on our motorcycles without being cumbersome or weighing the bike down. The Moto Medic checks all these boxes and then some. This kit contains everything you need to treat common injuries that can occur when you're ripping up the trails or zipping down the highway on your bike.

My Medic worked with EMT professionals and nurses to address the most common injuries for every activity, leading to the development of explicitly dialed-in first aid kits. Most kits are offered in a basic and advanced version, with the advanced version containing critical life-saving supplies, like tourniquets, chest seals, gauze, etc. My Medic also features “how to” videos on its website that explain how to use certain items and ways to deal with emergency situations.

The Moto Medic Stormproof kit features a carry case that is made of waterproof material with welded seams and a water-resistant zipper. So if you have to strap it to your motorcycle’s passenger seat or luggage you can confidently take it on your next epic adventure and not worry about the elements ruining the contents. The stormproof bag exterior features M.O.L.L.E. loops that allow you to attach it to other MOLLE-equipped motorcycle luggage, such as the SW-MOTECH Legend Series bags WRN reviewed here.

The Moto Medic first aid kit easily fits inside a saddlebag. But since this kit’s carry case is waterproof and has M.O.L.L.E. (tactical system of securely fastening bags and accessories) webbing, it can be securely attached to the outside of any bag with the M.O.L.L.E. where it’s easily accessible and it won’t take up any space. Here it is shown attached to a SW-MOTECH PRO Blaze saddlebag on a Suzuki SV650.

Because the contents are securely attached to the case with Velcro and everything has a pouch, you can still open it up and get what you need quickly without everything falling out.

I love how the Moto Medic kits are built with modular organization that allows each pocket and strap inside to be infinitely customized. The category icons on each pocket help you quickly find exactly what you need.

The interior of the case is lined with Velcro, and each mesh pocket can be removed and reorganized.

Having different sized bandages, gauze, and blood clotting agents is important to keep stocked up in your first aid kit.

I always have lip balm in my pocket, but I don’t even think about some of these other ointments until I need them.

The My Medic kit comes with almost everything you could possibly need in an emergency situation, including a glow stick, flashlight, tweezers, and a whistle—handy supplies that are also common with campers and hikers.

The only thing I would add to this kit is a magnifying glass, so I can read some of the packaging’s tiny print. Ever notice medication labels use the smallest font size?!!

The $10 My Medic Stay Alive Guide is a pocket-sized guide covering everything from first aid basics such as CPR, bleeding, and burns to survival skills like tying knots, building shelters, and getting un-lost. This is another great item to stow away on your bike for referencing in all kinds of unforeseen circumstances.

Being prepared for the ride includes more than a well-maintained motorcycle and good riding gear. Gearing up with a quality first aid kit may prove to be an integral part of your moto happiness.
