I have to say I love my SV650. I did a lot of research when I received my endorsement in 2004. I decided on the SV650 after reading lots of reviews that gave the same opinion as Diane.

It wasn't too powerful for a beginner and was very forgiving. But it didn't stop there. It kept up with my skills over the years where even now with six years and 15,000 miles under my belt I would not give it up.

Sadly it was wrecked here a while ago, so I started a new search for an SV650. Guess what, the SV650 is still the bike for me.

Finally, a detailed review from a woman rider. It's frustrating to do research and only see reviews based on men who are 6 feet tall. Thank you Diane!

This article was very well-written, informative and honest. About three months ago I purchased a Yamaha C3 scooter for the purpose of attaining the highest possible fuel mileage. Needless to say, at 116 MPG I have not been disappointed.

Having and riding the scooter has officially given me "the fever" to ride something more powerful and to take some lengthy road trips. So, I took the motorcycle safety course (highly, highly, highly recommended) and now have a motorcycle license. And a heightened level of common riding sense.

After researching, ad-infinitum, many bikes, I found the SV650. Not only is it the perfect bike for a beginner (not over-powered or ill-tempered), the price is right and it allows me to improve the skills I just learned in the safety course.
It will allow me to take some longer road trips and can be outfitted with a wide variety of aftermarket accessories.

And the fuel mileage is great! In fact, I have read several articles that mentioned the SV650 as being one of the most fuel-efficient motorcycles on the market.

So, if fuel economy, practicality, fun, safety and having a bike that you won't quickly outgrow are motivators in your decision-making process, consider the SV650. I'm putting a deposit down on an '09 model this weekend.

Update: I am the proud owner of an 08 SV650 and couldn't be happier! I ride it an hour each way to work and have already put more than 600 miles on it. It most certainly inspires confidence and has given me such a passion for learning more and more about rider control and how to ride responsibly. For anyone considering an SV650, I highly recommend it!
