New 2011 and 2012 Motorcycles Debut

It used to be that motorcycle manufacturers would unveil all their new motorcycles at the beginning of a model year, that being mid- to late-summer. Now some manufacturers are holding one or two models to debut during the winter months at the International Motorcycle Show's consumer trade event and using that as a platform to create mid-year buzz for their brand.

Several new motorcycles were introduced at the Long Beach, Calif., and New York City Progressive International Motorcycle Shows, where media days are held to give the motorcycle press a sneak peek before the general public. Here are the new models that debuted recently, as well as other 2011 introductions we think you’d like to know about.

The Latest Introductions
The Blackline from Harley-Davidson is a stripped-down Softail, part of the Dark Custom line. Note the new "split drag" handlebars and retro Evolution air cleaner cover. Very low seat height at 24 inches. Comes in black or this two-tone color. Price starts at $15,499.

Old school is in at Victory. The High-Ball is an early-release 2012 custom cruiser model with a 106ci (1731cc) engine and a 25-inch seat height. Comes in this black color only. Price: $13,499.

The 2012 Monster 1100EVO from Ducati is an upgrade from its predecessor, delivering 100 air-cooled horsepower, the first Ducati to do so. A 31.9-inch seat height is manageable. New seat and higher handlebars improve comfort. Price: $11,995.

BMW at a Glance
BMW's entry-level single cylinder, the dual-purpose G 650 GS, has updated bodywork and three seat height options—stock is 30.7 inches, low is 29.5 inches, and high is 32.3 inches.

The BMW F 800 R is all new for 2011, with a new throttle valve system making it more responsive than its F 800 cousins. Naked styling gives it a "roadster" appearance. Low seat height is 30.5 inches; high is 32.5 inches. Weight is a light 390 pounds. Price: $9,950.

The 2011 R 1200 R (and R 1200 R Classic) offers an extra boost in power, with greater acceleration at the top rpm range over its predecessor. Low seat height is 29.5 inches; stock is 31.5 inches.

The 2011 Daytona 675R is a higher race-spec version of the Daytona 675, with a full Ohlins suspension like that used on the Triumph BE1 World Supersport factory racing bikes. It also features Brembo monobloc brakes, a factory quick shifter and carbon fiber bodywork for the ultimate track day and road bike.
