1. Can I buy a subscription to Women Riders Now (WRN)?
No you cannot. Women Riders Now is an online motorcycle magazine only. There is no print version of the magazine. You cannot buy a subscription to WomenRidersNow.com. The content provided is free. We do offer a biweekly eNewsletter that is complimentary. You can receive it every other week week in your email box by signing up for it in the sign-up box on the left margin of every page or by
clicking here. It alerts you to new stories we post on WRN and news going on in the industry.
2. Is WomenRidersNow.com a blog?
WomenRidersNow.com is not a blog. It is an online magazine that abides by the same standards as a journalistically sound print magazine. The editor does write a blog as sort of an "editor's note" part of the Web site magazine. A blog, by definition, features opinionated content by its author. WRN is not a blog.
3. How can I get my product mentioned on WRN?
WRN's Apparel & Product Reviews is a section where we post selected items we feel are of interest to our readers. If you would like your product to be considered for a product announcement—where we do not test the product, we simply post information about it—please follow these guidelines: submit a press release spelling out the basics of the product (i.e. who, what, where, why and when). Attach at least one image (two are preferred) in a high resolution jpeg format. While low resolution photos are used on the Web, we prefer to downsize them on our end. Email the images and press release the editor at gschmitt@womenridersnow.com. We make no guarantees on when and if the product will post.
If you wish to have your product tested by WRN editor Genevieve Schmitt or one of the WRN contributors, it is best to call or email us to see if your product is something we feel is worthwhile to our readers. We cannot guarantee we'll test a product or post information about if it is sent to us unsolicited.
4. How often do you send out your newsletter?
The WRN Newsletter comes out once every two weeks on a Tuesday. It is sent to email addresses of people who opt in to our mailing list. The newsletter does not come out monthly, nor is it weekly. We have experimented with how often to send out the newsletter and our readers tell us monthly is too long for them to wait and weekly is too often. Since we post new stories every week, we decided bi-weekly is the best compromise that seems to work for the majority of readers. The newsletter is our way of alerting interested readers that we've posted new stories to the site.
5. How can I sign up to receive your newsletter?
Visitors to WRN can sign up to receive the newsletter on our
newsletter sign up page. We never sign up a name on our newsletter mailing list unless that person has asked us to. If you've received the newsletter from Women Riders Now, a friend must have signed you up. We do not "spam" people. We adhere to the highest standards regarding Internet and email usage.
6. How do I advertise on Women Riders Now?
We offer a variety of different size banner ads that you can buy to have your product or service reach the thousands of readers visiting the site every month. Visit the Advertising Info link under the About Us section to find out how to receive a media kit.
7. Why an online magazine about women and motorcycling?
Currently, new women riders, experienced women riders, passengers, and women thinking about riding are not targeted specifically by any large scale national media outlet, be it print, online or television. WomenRidersNow.com aims to serve this, the fastest growing demographic of and most influential group of riders. To learn more about WRN's mission, visit the Who We Are link.
8. What is Women Riders Now editorial policy?
We operate much like the high end motorcycle magazines in that we adhere to strict editorial guidelines with a goal of being fair and balanced with every story that is posted. We do not favor any brand or product over another.
9. Do you have a list of women's riding clubs and organizations?
Yes, we do. It can be found here under the "It's All About You" section. If you'd like your club listed send an email to info@womenridersnow.com.
10. Why is a comment I posted not appearing on the Web site yet?
We review all comments before they get posted on the site. If you don't see your submission posted, it may be because a) we haven't gotten around to reviewing it yet, or b) it didn't meet our editorial standards for posting.
11. How is WomenRidersNow.com different than the other female-oriented motorcycling Web sites?
The founder of this online magazine, Genevieve Schmitt, works in the motorcycle industry full-time and has been since 1997. Using her extensive list of industry contacts coupled with her motorcycling experience, she aims to bring a broader perspective to women and motorcycling information available today.
WomenRidersNow.com is much more than a Web site. It is an online magazine packed with news and information about the motorcycle industry with a focus on women riders. There are not many places on the Internet where you can read a motorcycle test ride article written by a woman. Our founder gets invited to the leading motorcycle industry events. She and her team of experienced moto-journalists are able to deliver the most-up-to-date news and information on women and motorcycling not found anywhere else. You can read more about our founder at the Our Founder link.
12. It seems like Women Riders Now showcases more cruiser and touring motorcycles than sportbikes and you seem to lean more towards one particular brand. Is this true?
That is not true. We are an all-brands motorcycle site and do not showcase one style or brand of motorcycle. Look closely at the pictures on the site. You will see every major brand of motorcycle represented as well as styles, sportbikes included. National statistics indicate that more than half of female motorcyclists ride a cruiser style motorcycle, so based on the input we get from readers, we receive more cruiser-related material.
In our quest to showcase all styles of motorcycles fairly, we've developed an extensive Racing Page for those who ride sportbikes and want to go one step further. When it comes to women and motorcycling, we believe that it's not about the brand or style of bike that's ridden, what's more important is the fact that women ride.
13. You have so many articles on safe riding and safe riding gear, it seems contradictory to show images of people riding without wearing jackets, DOT approved helmets, etc. Why do you do this?
We at Women Riders Now pride ourselves on the fact that we adhere to ATGATT (all the gear all the time) with every photo shoot we have control over -- that being our motorcycle test rides and product reviews. We are very careful to make sure our test riders and contributors are always wearing DOT approved helmets, gloves, jackets and boots. If she is not wearing all the gear, it's because she must just be sitting on the motorcycle, as opposed to riding it.
However, you may see stories submitted by readers who are not wearing proper safety gear. We made a decision early on that if we were to invite the hundreds of thousands of readers who visit our Web site to submit their stories and their reviews as well as photos, of which we have no control over what they're wearing, we'd have to relax our rules a bit. (Obviously, we draw the line at someone wearing bikini tops, etc.). The Internet is all about community and social networking. The stories submitted by our readers have been some of the most popular stories on our site. We edit the stories as we see fit, and post only the photos we feel are pertinent to the message of the story.
