Riding Glasses

by tlc » Fri Mar 09, 2012 11:19 am

I'm looking for some prescription sunglasses made for riding. The ones I wear now are the normal everyday straight across sunglasses but I would like something with some wrap to them to block the wind. I have been thinking I might have to get eye surgery to correct my vision so I can use the non-prescription ones which is a thought that I really don't like..
My concern is that they fit well when my helmet is on and not cause pain or headaches. My hubby gets some pretty good head pains from his regular ones sometimes.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have the Wiley X glasses with the climate control frames. They have a cushion that seals to your face and helps keep dirt, pollen etc out of your eyes. You can get those in a prescription lense and also a changing lense that changes from light to dark in the sun. I have the Ink model and the Blink for women. They are a little pricey. I got one pair thru The Sportsmans Guide for $29.00 but they aren't prescription. They fit well, are very sturdy. They came with a hard case, strap and a cleaning cloth :)

Thank you for this link! I wear prescription glasses and was hoping to find something like this. I am wondering how comfortable they are with a full helmet. If I may ask, how pricey are the prescription glasses?

Thanks for the links gals!!

I wonder if I ordered off of the Sportsman's website if I could still get them with the prescription? I'll have to check them out. :D

Hi Theresa,

I have 2 pairs of prescription sunglasses, one Rec Specs Liberty and one Wiley-x Brick. I purchased these glasses with prescription lenses through my eye doctor's office at 50% off a few years ago. With the discount I paid approximately $100 per pair. Unfortunately, neither of these glasses fit very well under a full helmet. Perhaps it is because they are unisex model sunglasses? They do work great with half helmets. My full face helmets have quick release shields so I wear my normal glasses with a tinted shield when riding during the day with the full face.

Afternoon,
I have prescription ones that I wear under a full face...they are Flexon frames so that I can wiggle them in all directions if I need to and they don't get out of shape or break. I have several pairs of "counter" glasses that aren't real friendly with my fullface...the eye part is to wide for my face, the ear pieces dig into my head, they are heavy, etc. I keep a yellow shield on all the time but have a backup shield should I need it. The yellow seems to make things clearer and sharper and I do use the yellow for day/night riding. Some folks like the blue tinted since they are suppose to have similar vision. The fishing/yard work glasses come in both colors that you could try to see if you like them and then get a shield if you liked it enough.
The Flexon frames are often used for kids who are rough on glasses since they take a lot of abuse before breaking.
