That's exactly why I was glad to have someone experienced go with me! I'm pretty sure that I'd be sensible enough on my own to get something protective rather than something that's just cute, but you never know... It's definitely good to have a shopping buddy who says they won't let you walk out of the store with something they think is shoddy and won't protect you well enough. Although, she ended up caring much more than I did about making sure everything looked good as a set, because I got so excited just about how cool I felt wearing the heavy armoured jacket :D

I have a friend who never wears a helmet, and it makes me all sad and worried when she rides that way. It seems so much smarter to sacrifice a few immediate style points for the long-term purpose of keeping one's face looking cute (and intact)...

As an experienced ER PA and former medic I'll add that there are far worse things then dyin'. Being a forever burden to your loved ones comes immediately to mind. That "freedom" or whatever can potentially come at a huge cost... Just sayin'... And like one of our fellow forum member says, You can't put it ON when you're going down! :)
