Tent-trailer & Rain

by Burgmanlady » Fri Sep 23, 2011 1:13 am

So, yesterday, my Burgman decided to go south. Took it to the dealer here in Asheville and he said to put some real gas in it. There is only one station in Ashville, that sells it. Citco. So, I filled it as full as I could with it. Even after just a few miles, I noticed a difference. One problem down...

When we got here on Wednesday, it was in between rain storms. I tride to tell Mike that this spot we are on, isn't good. Or we need to re-arrange the trailer. Does he listen or do anything about it? He is a man.... enough said. So, tonight, around 11 PM it starts to rain again. The add a room, collapses. I go fix it. That don't last, it falls again, I wake up Mike and ask him to help....That's a joke! So I go outside, in my nightgown and a hoodie, of course, my pauncho is in the back case locked up on the scoot, which is covered. So, It has now rained enough to soften this very hard ground. I got the tent stake all the way down. I start working on the middle one, guess who? tries to tell me what to do. I just yelled SHUT UP! He tries again, Again I yelled SHUT UP!! His favorite thing to tell me. He goes back to bed. Well, so far the stakes are holding.....Now I am soaked, and irritated. I went to the bathhouse and turned my gown around and dried the back with the hand blower, then stuck my stuck my head under to dry the hair some. Came back in and turn on the one gas burner and made a pot of coffee. Now you all know in the morning he is going to wonder why I want to sleep. Right now, I am not enjoying this one bit. So, when it quits raining tomorrow, I am moving everything around and if I have to recruit a few extra guys, to help me, I am going to get it done. This is suppose to be a fun trip, I guess it is for him!
Thank you all for letting me vent. He is not on here, so I don't have to worry about him reading it.

For those who don't know Mike is the hubby. 3 years ago he was in an 18 wheeler in Knoxville and had a roller over. He had a brain bleed. So even though I vent am lucky to still have him.

Boy Faye, I think I'm going to enjoy your camping trip, please know I'm laughing with, not at you.
Go ahead and get peeved at Mike, we love them but they can sure aggravate a saint sometimes.

Hey Ladies....guess we've all been there whether it's camping or something else. And yes we do have to laugh at times to keep from crying! Or sometimes do both. Sorry you're having a wet trip and hope that it dries out some so the remainder of the trip will be lots more fun. And I agree that men are men and think they're always right and even if they're wrong they rarely admit it! Sure hope it gets better.

Ohhh yeesssss, I can totally relate LadyB. It's been more than once that I wanted to do the "backhoe" treatment to the love of my life. When God passed out the brains and common sense I think he short changed the men! You have every right to vent about your hubby since you are the one that lives with him every day (and thankfully are still able to). I would be madder than a hornet and fit to be tied.

Here is what you do... Hire you some big strappin' dudes (shirts on or off is entirely up to you ;) ) to get the job done. Get yourself a nice comfly chair to view "the action" along with a nice cup of coffee (spiked or not spiked is up to you ;) ).

Your hubby will either; 1) be mad. 2) be thankful he didn't have to do it.3) admire your determination 4) stay the heck out of your way. 5) go back to bed. 6) become more helpful next time???

I hope your trip gets better b/c I know how miserable the rain can be. It sure takes the fun out of things real quick and so does a hubby that isn't "quick" to help out.

Good luck,
Theresa

And I'm with the rest of you... we've been there. I thought I had my hubby satisfied that he'd found a great riding buddy.... we've been enjoying the comfort of Best Westerns while on trips which makes the end of the day something to look forward to. Well, that and a glass of wine. But now HE'S talking about how many more days we could be on the road if we were camping (<$$). Ugh. I DID the camping thing. When I was YOUNG. The thought of going back to sleeping on the ground is not cool. So I will resist for awhile, and then eventually as we all do, we will find a compromise.

In the meantime... enjoy. I feel like I have life by the tail when we're on a trip. Makes me smile just thinking about it and I'm about 5000 miles from my bike, in the ever-decreasing daylight of an Alaskan fall day, rain lashing at the window, wind about 40 knots and showing no sign of relief for awhile. :D

Reading this makes me feel happy that I live where I do. Alaska is very beautiful so I'm told but the winters are very hard and not for a wimp like me. How long until you are back home with your bike?

Hubby and I just got here and we do 28 days on, with 28 off. When we return to Colorado, we may be able to get some day trips in or ride south into the warmer and lower elevations! We're lucky to live in a "high and dry" place with lots of sunshine after doing 28 days during an Alaskan winter. The flip side is that the summers in Alaska are wonderful! Lots of daylight!!

I love camping, as long as there is room service! I'm too old, fat and creeky to sleep on the ground, I want an extra firm posturepedic and a remote control. But I'm happy to enjoy your happiness or sympathize with your miserableness so keep the tales coming.

oh I do not think there is one man out there that will ever admit to when they are wrong.....and the lady was correct with a matter. I hope the camping goes better for the next night. When you get time to post another message. Please let us know how things are going.
