what color is your helmet?

what color is your helmet?

by puddin » Sat Aug 13, 2011 9:54 pm

After reading several articles on light helmets being seen easier by drivers, I changed to a white 1, then I cut a design out of tractor-trailer reflectors (hearts for me) they are super bright even on the sides. I also noticed that the white helmet was cooler (temp wise) than my red 1. I started looking at helmets on riders & you really can see the bright colors faster than the dark 1s especially at night!

Mine is multicolored...orange/silver/blue/red graphics but I added a silver retro-reflective decals on all sides hoping that at night/low visibility that I'd be seen. I also wear a police style vest at all times. When we both went down in TX in 05 nobody was close but were maybe a 1/2 mile behind us said that they could see our vests well before they actually got to us. Also have additional lights on the rear/front/sides of both m/c's and have hi-viz yellow jacket. Have been told that I'm "flashy" but I just want to be seen and if it that's what it takes then fine with me.

I wear a Zox, black with a gold eagle decal that runs across the back and around the sides but was at Shadetree yesterday looking a white helmets for next year, Shoei and Bell have ones that I'm seriously considering. I spent some time trying on the full face ones and decided against one, too restrictive, too closed in feeling and uncomfortable. Brenda

Hey Bren...if you have access to other m/c shops go check out their full face helmets and other styles. Not all heads are shaped the same. I wore a Bell when I first started riding but it was always uncomfortable. Then I got a 3/4 Arai and then I went to full face Arai, go to their websit and poke around and you'll find a pic of different head shapes. I've been wearing a Quantam 4 for about 15 yrs or so now and it fits my head...I have a more "oval" head. But do check out other helmet brands at other shops...may fit your head better...sort of like putting a square peg in a round hole. Maybe check out some of the flip ups.

Hi Debra, the gear store doesn't carry Arai, it did have a variety of other brands, it wasn't the fit but the overall enclosed nature of the full face helmet that I don't like. I will check out the Arai when I find it, perhaps a 3/4 will suit me, I'm shopping with an open mind. Ride Safe, Brenda.

Hey Bren, just wanted you to go to Arai website to see pics of the head shapes. Not sure how other brands are shaped. Know the Bell leaves pressure points on the front of my forhead and the Shoei has to much room in the top and it puts the vision opening just above my eyes...even in the correct size...I don't have a pointy head!!!! Hope you find one that suits you...remember to do like they say...put it on and walk around the place for 15 minutes or so. And good luck.
