Hi kendoll2,
I haven't actually switched yet. I'm waiting until the registration goes through for my Honda NT700V that I just purchased a few weeks ago. The paperwork specifies my State Farm and PA gets funny about things like that sometimes :? . But as soon as I get that registration, I'm switching to save the $$$$'s. Enjoy the motorcycle class, it is well worth the time invested! :)

I have progressive as well. I added uninsured motorist to my policy. It went up $370 a year! It took a minute to wrap my head around that. But we have a lot of people here that have no insurance on the road. So I think I'm gonna suck it up.

I just got my insurance set up yesterday. I have MetLife, but they use Progressive for their motorcycle insurance. They set it up for me with the exact same coverages and deductible on my car, and it's coming out to about $43 a month. Doesn't seem too bad for a 1st time rider to me. It's less than I pay for my car a month.

One thing they did tell me is that I have roadside assistance on the bike. And, the comp is set up so that if some jerk knocks my bike over, the body damage is covered.

Hey Jen...did you get a completion card for the safety class? If you did, you need to tell your m/c insurance folks and the car folks too that you took the class and have a completion card...usually you'll get a little bit of a discount on your premium for both vehicles. They may want a copy of your card.

Hey Debra! Yeah, I told them I completed the class and offered to give them the number on my completion card, but they said they didn't need it. Guess they're taking my word for it. Maybe it was because I was honest and told them the Hubby only had a learner's permit. But, as soon as he gets his completion card, I'm calling them back to see if a little more can be shaved off the rate! ;)

Sad that we have to suck it up because of the dishonesty and irresponsibility of others, huh?
I have a friend who's worked for decades for an insurance co. and I could tell ya stories!
She says some parents argue with her that their spoiled kids need to use the car, but the kid's poor driving record has driven up their rates into the 10's of thousands of dollars, and that's no exaggeration! The parents are willing to pay to keep these maniacs on the road.
I also heard from 3 separate sources that car driver examiners often accept bribes of a couple of $100 in exchange for a "Pass" on a driver's test.
And even though it is now illegal to chat or text on a cellphone while driving, I still see plenty of drivers do it.
But, how does one control this?!!
From what I see on the roads, it pays to have yourself covered.
