On October 3-5, 2008, Femmoto, an all women's demo day on the track, took place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the seventh time. This is the first year all the major manufacturers were represented, as well as some of the smaller ones like Kymco and Triumph. This is one the biggest outreach events in the motorcycle industry for women riders designed to give them a chance to test ride the new bikes on the controlled environment of a track without the presence of men.

It is comfortable, like a second skin. It is man and machine morphing into one entity. I am relaxed and loose. My thoughts don't exist. There is total absence of thought. Feel takes over. Snippets of images waft in and out, but no plans, no grabbing on to an idea, no holding on tight for fear of forgetting, no fear of anything.

Falling temperatures can put the chill on the journey for some motorcycle riders. One way to extend your riding season is by wearing heated gear. But pants, vests, jackets and gloves that heat by hooking into your motorcycle's battery can be cumbersome with all the wires. As a result, some riders have not "bought into" the whole heated gear concept.

The Sportster line is considered Harley-Davidson's entry level family of motorcycles because the bikes are smaller in size and in engine displacement than the rest of the Harleys and the price is lower. Because of that, many first time riders gravitate to a Sportster. Now, more and more women are discovering the Sportster family with the introduction of the low and light Sportster Nightster in the 2008 model year.
