Funny Insurance Claims
What some people think they can get away with
11/2/2009: When it comes to motorcycle insurance claims, there are some common situations we often deal with at Markel. While many of the claims we see have similar circumstances, every once in a while we get one that makes even our most seasoned claim examiners step back and say, "How did THAT happen?"

Insuring Your Motorcycle Accessories
Five steps to make sure the extras are covered
9/8/2009: Imagine getting ready for your next ride. You put on your chaps, jacket, boots, gloves and helmet. Throw a few things in your bike's saddlebags, maybe clean some bugs off the windshield. Turn on the GPS, maybe even put some tunes on the radio and you’re ready to take off. What if I told you that if you were to get in an accident on that ride, the motorcycle accessories mentioned above may not be covered on your motorcycle insurance policy?

An expert gives us the truth
7/17/2009: Insurance is a word that can incite many emotions; it can signify security, but it can also cause confusion when trying to understand what is and isn't covered under your policy when a loss occurs. As motorcycle insurance specialists we know just how mystifying this can be. This month, I'll share four of the more common misconceptions people have about their insurance and provide you with some real answers.

Motorcycle Insurance: 5 Commonly Asked Questions
An expert gives us answers
6/12/2009: You'd rather be riding your motorcycle than be behind the wheel of a car any day. You've customized your bike as much as you can so it screams "you!" And you know that the only difference between dragging the pegs and highsiding is a lot of skill (and a little luck). But how much do you know about the insurance that protects you while you're out there with the wind in your face?

Putting Together a Motorcycle Tool Kit
WRN asks a pro
6/1/2009: We asked custom motorcycle builder and mechanic Athena Ransom of Vagabond Chopper Company what she has in her motorcycle tool kit when she goes on an extended trip. See a list of tools she carries with her on her bike.

Setting Up Your Motorcycle Garage
What you need to get started
3/23/2009: Working on your own motorcycle can be rewarding. I was 18 years old the first time I performed an oil and filter change on my motorcycle, and the knowledge I gained from doing it was gratifying and confidence inspiring. Since then I've done a lot of mechanical repairs and maintenance on motorcycles, but always with the thought in the back of my head that working on a motorcycle is serious business

Get To Know Your VIN Number
It’s actually quite interesting!
12/5/2008: Let me start off by writing that I know saying VIN numbers is redundant. VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number, so we are actually saying Vehicle Identification Number Number. Funny, huh? It is common practice to call it a VIN number so there is no need to get anal about it.

Storing Your Motorcycle for Winter
What you should and shouldn't do
10/15/2008: Can you believe it's time for us to be talking about this? I mean seriously, where did the summer go? Hopefully you’ll have plenty of awesome fall riding days left, in my opinion the best time to ride, but reality is winter is just around the corner -- well at least for most of us.

Motorcycle Smarts: Basic Terminology
No more pretending you know
6/21/2008: Sometimes it is difficult to participate in a technical conversation with others who seem more versed in motorcycle terminology. For those of you who may, on occasion, feel this way, this article was written for you. You will find what I refer to as the basics in motorcycle terminology. Can you guess what part of the motorcycle is at right?

A Tire Tell-All
Get to know your tires
5/22/2008: Tires are one of the most important parts of a motorcycle as they are a rider's only contact with the pavement. But many riders take their tires for granted, forgetting to properly inflate and care for them. Tires are actually the easiest part of a motorcycle to maintain. Preventive maintenance can save a ton of headaches later on.
